Bar Camp Philly after party videos

Posted by admin  Published in Uncategorized, philadelphia, technology

My lovely boyfriend took some video of the after party for Bar Camp Philly at National Mechanics last night.
First, we have Whitney Hess on Rock Band, essentially rapping. Very amusing for anyone who knows her.
>
Then, we have Rachel Sooy yelling her heart out as we thank Roz Duffy and JP Toto for their work [...]

Bar Camp Philly FTW!

Posted by admin  Published in philadelphia, technology

Today I had an informative, creative, wonderful day with a group of great people at BarCamp Philadelphia. I worked with registration desk most of the morning, so I had the pleasure (and I truly mean that) of meeting most of the attendees. Some were old acquaintances and friends from PodCamp Philly, NYC Tweetups, [...]

‘Twas the night before BarCamp….

Posted by admin  Published in philadelphia, technology

If you’re not on Twitter, or you’ve been living in a cave lately, tomorrow is BarCampPhilly. I’ve been volunteering to help organize it, and spent part of this afternoon at the University of the Arts helping setup. I’ll be volunteering at the registration desk and in the information center on the 13th floor [...]

MacSpeech Dictate - first impressions

Posted by admin  Published in chronic illness, school

I have torn ligament in my left wrist at the moment that’s been slow in healing partially due to my own stupidity in overusing it. I also have viral arthritis, which given the rainy, colder weather Philadelphia is experiencing lately, is flaring up. I do a fair amount of writing in general, but [...]

Listening to your body

Posted by admin  Published in Uncategorized

As I’ve said in the past, I have several chronic illnesses. The insane busyness of the past week, with reports being due to grant agencies at work, planning and throwing my cousin’s baby shower, and then staying up to watch the election returns and listen to the speeches last night…..well, my body decided it [...]

A small win for me :)

Posted by admin  Published in family

One of the things that has been on my “after I finish my prelims” list for awhile is to take the entrance test to see if I qualify for MENSA. National MENSA testing day was October 18; I signed up, had my boyfriend drive me to the library in North East Philly where the testing [...]

How much is too much?

Posted by admin  Published in family, randomness, technology

One of the most common complaints/worries/quasi-compliments I get is that I do so much! I don’t really ever notice it, I just do what I think needs to be done or what I think will be interesting or fun to do. I’m getting better at recognizing my limitations, as someone with several chronic [...]

My Halloween costume for this year

Posted by admin  Published in family, randomness

I was so busy this past week with some reports due to grant agencies in our lab, and planning yesterday’s baby shower; I didn’t really have time to plan a Halloween costume. I do dress up every year, I love Halloween, and plus the baby shower was Halloween-themed and guests were encouraged to dress [...]

Halloween, Babies, and Pirates!

Posted by admin  Published in family

Today I threw my cousin’s long-planned Halloween-themed baby shower. I spent yesterday and this morning making 2 vegan pumpkin pies, a gluten-free vanilla cake, 2 dozen vegan chocolate cupcakes with vanilla icing, apple cider punch, and cutting squares of off-white cloth. I had the guests decorate the squares with sharpies so I can [...]
